Encrypted Communication without Keys
Why an Email Portal?
Recipients without their own certificate often pose an obstacle to encrypted communication. The mail:u Portal is a flexibly integrable module of the mail:u platform and combines seamlessly with other modules (such as FileLink, for example). It enables secure email communication via a browser-based interface – without any prior exchange of keys.
Use of the portal is centrally controlled via the Workflow Engine and can be defined with complete flexibility. A typical example from practice: whenever an outgoing email lacks a valid public key for the recipient and encryption is enforced, the system automatically redirects the message to the portal.
Since the rules can be flexibly adapted, you can also tailor the access paths exactly to the required level of protection: the system supports both simple registration and access with enhanced security features (such as 2-factor authentication).
If your defined portal rule applies, delivery happens fully automatically in the background for the user, for example:
Portal delivery occurs automatically when no valid public key is available for the recipient and encryption is enforced.
- Message is stored encrypted in the portal
- Recipient receives a notification with an individual link
- After authentication, the message can be read
- Reply and file upload are possible directly via the portal
Over 99% of messages without a key are delivered via the portal – alternatives such as an encrypted PDF are rather the exception. The process is fully automated and requires no manual intervention.
