After our trip last year was already a complete success, it was quickly decided: we're doing it again! So once again this year, it was time for us to hop into the boats and head out onto the Lahn.
Arriving with anticipation in tow
Part of the group met up at the office in the morning and drove there together, while the rest came straight to the starting point in Weilburg. At the boathouse, there was just a brief moment to catch our breath before the equipment was handed out: life jackets, paddles and waterproof barrels for anything that absolutely had to stay dry. After a short briefing, we set off onto the water in our five canoes, bound for Aumenau.
Through the tunnel and the locks
Shortly after the start, the route led straight through the dark shipping tunnel. No sooner were we back in daylight than the first lock followed. With a bit of teamwork and a healthy dose of respect for the unknown, all the boats made it through safely.
For the rest of the way to Aumenau, things stayed lively and there was certainly no shortage of speed. We passed another lock, paddles went flying through the air, and with the perfect summer weather, more than one person ended up voluntarily in the shallow water by the end of the tour. There was really nothing to complain about on this day.
Winding down with a waterfall ambience
Once our sailors were dry again and no Lahn monster had been spotted under the water either, we headed back to Weilburg for the relaxed part of the day. Right at the foot of the impressive castle, we wound down the day with a delicious buffet, cool drinks and live music – picturesque waterfall ambience included.
An all-round successful day
Plenty of sun, good spirits and, for the second year running, not a single dull moment. A great event that will surely find its place again next year too!
